The Edify Green Hydrogen Project secured development approval in September 2021 for a 1GW+ green hydrogen production facility with a behind-the-meter solar PV and battery storage facility.

The Townsville Hydrogen Hub, situated in the Lansdown Eco-Industrial Precinct, is set to have an initial annual production capacity of 800 tonnes of green hydrogen. The project led by Edify Energy plans to expand this to include an additional 150,000 tonnes of green hydrogen production.

Backed by a $70 million federal government investment, the hub will initially fuel over 40 heavy vehicles and support a local critical mineral processing plant. The facility will be constructed in stages to meet the market demand with the initial stage to include a 17.6MW demonstration facility with renewable energy generation, with future improvement potential to a upgrade to the full scale 1GW capacity. Construction is expected to begin in 2025, with commercial operations starting in 2027.
