The facility proposes to process 1.5 million tonnes of ore annually to produce nickel sulfate, cobalt sulfate and high-purity alumina at the Lansdown Eco-Industrial Precinct.
The Townsville Energy Chemicals Hub Project is set to establish a modern and environmentally sustainable battery materials refinery in Queensland. The project will process high-grade laterite ore from New Caledonia to produce nickel sulphate, cobalt sulphate, and valuable co-products.
Renowned for its global-leading sustainability features the TECH project ensures negative carbon emissions, eliminate tailings dams, and avoid process liquids discharge. This commitment to environmental responsibility is a key priority for the project.
The TECH Project has gained "Prescribed Project" status from the Queensland Government recognising its economic and social importance to the region. This will assist with government approvals through the Office of the Coordinator General, demonstrating the project's strategic significance.
By establishing a sustainable battery materials refinery, the TECH Project aims to contribute to the growing global demand for critical minerals, while showcasing Queensland's leadership in environmentally responsible resource development. This innovative project represents a significant step forward in the transition towards a more sustainable energy future.
