Project Details

Jet Zero’s sustainable aviation fuel plant is set to be located at Cleveland Bay Industrial Park with construction expected to begin in 2025 with completion in 2026.

Jet Zero, a joint venture between Airbus and Qantas, is set to build the first-of-its-kind alcohol-to-jet fuel sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production plant in Australia. The company has signed a license and engineering agreement with LanzaJet, which will grant Jet Zero access to LanzaJet's bioproduct conversion technology.

This partnership aims to enable the production of 102 million litres of SAF annually and 11 million litres of renewable diesel. At maximum blend, this SAF output could potentially meet the entire fuel demands of Townsville Airport.

The project has strong supply chain linkages to other key domestic industries that will deliver demand and employment across the agriculture, aviation, energy , defence and logistics sectors.

Jet Zero's Project Ulysses is set to:

  • Position Queensland as a world leader in the low-emissions biofuels industry.
  • Reduce jet aircraft CO2 emissions by over 70% compared to the equivalent fossil fuel.
  • Produce one-sixth of the domestic airline industry's entire 2030 Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) commitment.
  • Expand the local industrial demand for the emerging Townsville renewable energy hub.
  • Secure a local supply of renewable diesel for the reef tourism, mining, and transport sectors.
  • Provide the Australian Defence Force (ADF) with fuel security in a strategically important region.
