Townsville University Hospital Expansion
Overview
Project Details
The Townsville region is forecasted to experience significant population growth of over 30% in the next 20 years. To meet the increasing demand for healthcare services in the region, the expansion of the Townsville University Hospital is a critical infrastructure project.
The Townsville University Hospital's $530 million expansion will add 143 beds to support the city's growing health needs. The project includes a new clinical building that will be constructed on the current helipad location, with a temporary helipad location being constructed. The completed development will allow the helicopters to land on the roof along with providing more acute care, rehabilitation and surgical patient beds, additional operating theatre spaces, and provide an additional 330 staff car parks. The project will support an estimated 1,454 jobs over the construction phase. The upgrades aim to complete the project by 2026, with BESIX Watpac to deliver the work after being awarded the tender back in 2023.
